James
A lifelong Angeleno and entrepreneur, he built a trucking business that let him chart his own path. But when the pandemic hit, anxiety and uncertainty, followed by the profound loss of his mother and brother brought his world to a halt. Grief made it impossible to return to work, and he eventually found himself living in his car, facing constant harassment and nowhere stable to rest.
Finding Safe Parking LA gave him a foothold. James gathered what he needed—like reinstating his car insurance—and entered the program. With support from his case manager, Monica, who reminded him again and again to stay the course, he focused on rebuilding. SPLA helped with essentials like car repairs, a AAA membership, and steady case management so he could move toward the future he wanted.
James has now secured housing and returned to work. He’s still in therapy and healing, still pushing forward, and still choosing strength on his terms. His next goals: get back on the road trucking and travel to Costa Rica.
“Safe Parking LA is what it is… safe parking, and I felt safe every time I was there.”
