Angela
Angela, 52, never imagined she would face homelessness firsthand.
In 2020, Angela began working at a women’s homeless services provider in Los Angeles, where she took various roles supporting interim housing programs and serving as a vaccine ambassador. During this time, she lived with her uncle. However, when her uncle’s health declined, he had to move out, leaving Angela alone and unable to secure affordable housing.
Faced with limited options, Angela began living in her car.Determined to regain her footing, Angela turned to Safe Parking LA for help. With a safe place to sleep and case management support, she found a renewed sense of hope. Safe Parking LA provided financial assistance for essential needs like gas and food, allowing Angela to focus on rebuilding her life.
Angela quickly secured a tutoring job and worked closely with her case manager, Monica, to explore housing options. Through Monica’s connections at PATH, another homeless services organization, Angela found a comfortable apartment that she could call home.
Her perseverance continued to pay off. Angela landed a higher-paying job with LA County Probation, where she now supports young people impacted by the juvenile justice system by providing coursework assistance. She feels immense gratitude for being in a fulfilling role and for having a home that truly feels like hers.
“I really love Safe Parking LA because...it ended up being such a blessing, not just because of the resources but because...we’re living out of our cars. We have no choice. You provided a place for us – we have bathrooms, facilities, trash cans, and everything else we need. We’re just in our cars. And I’m like – thank you. I never thought I would be in this position, but that’s what ended up happening.”
